  Miscellaneous Accessories

Many common accessories are given different part numbers by the various manufacturers. It is not practical, for us, to stock identical items under different numbers, so we list them all together, click here to see the full list.

The list also includes some special items we have 'manufactured'. In most cases a single line heading is sufficient information, but on this page we describe some of the items in more detail.

GA 80G1-00 Tripod - height adjustable 0.4 m to 1.45 m, maximum load 5 kg - includes £ 2 a day *
GA 80G1-40Tripod - ball and socket head - 1/4" threads
GA 80G1-60Tripod - conversion boss - 3/8" M and 1/4" F
GA 80G1-70Tripod - conversion boss - 1/4" M and 3/8" F
Nor 1261 Microphone preamplifier holder - 1/4" thread

Suitable for meters with 1/4" or 3/8" tripod threads. Included with the GA 91E1-00 Environmental Noise Enclosure.

GA 85W2-00 Vibration - hand arm mounting kit £ 2 a day *
Gracey & Associates mounting kit for fixing an accelerometer to a hand tool etc for measurements in all three planes = B&K DB 3585 mount with fixing ties + a B&K JJ 2615 adaptor to converter sound level meter preamplifiers inputs to take accelerometer cable.

For hand arm measurements add a B&K 4505 accelerometer. Ideal for use with a Nor 110 analyzer which includes hand arm and whole body weighting networks. The Nor 110 and Nor 121 also enables real time frequency analysis etc.

For a dedicated white finger vibration meters see also the B&K 2537 and the Larson Davis HVM100 analyzers which include mounting kits.

GA 87T1-00 Tapping Machine - radiation plate £ 5 a day *
Manufactured in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 11546 to enable the B&K 3207 or Nor 211 tapping machine to be used as a noise source for testing the acoustic properties of small enclosures.

The sound output of low radiation impedance devices like loudspeakers, fans etc., is affected by the environment within small enclosures, making practical measurements difficult. The GA 87T1-00 radiation plate is an approved solution for this problem.

GA 91E1-00 Outdoor Meter Enclosure with rechargeable batteries etc., £ 3 a day *
The GA 91E1-00 Outdoor Meter Enclosure is suitable for use with the B&K 2236, 2238, 2250, 2260 and the Nor 110, 116, 118 and 140 analyzers.

To enable continuous operation we supply two GA 60B1-00 lead acid batteries plus a charger, in a shower proof *** case, together with a sound level meter power lead **** and an alternative 'car' battery connector.

A GA 80G1-00 microphone stand, detailed above, is also included with 2 thread adaptors and a microphone preamplifier holder.

Each fully charged battery can supply 12 Ah, so the time between battery changes depends on the current drawn by the meter. For example a Nor 116 draws 50 mA, so each battery can last up to 240 hours or 10 days - i.e. 12 Ah divided by .05 Amps. Bear in mind individual meters may take ±10% of the nominal current and some batteries perform better or worse than others and are subject to temperature changes.

Meter                 Current       GA 60B1-00 battery life   **
B&K 2236     ≈ 60 mA   200 hours = > 8 days
B&K 2238   ≈ 100 mA   5 days
B&K 2250   ≈ 120 mA   4 days with internal battery removed
B&K 2250   ≈ 250 mA   2 days with internal battery connected
B&K 2260   ≈ 250 mA   2 days
Nor 110   ≈ 330 mA   36 hours with internal batteries removed
Nor 116     ≈ 50 mA   10 days
Nor 118   ≈ 100 mA   5 days

** Note: The battery life figures are for one 12 Ah battery, so if you connect the batteries in parallel then twice the 'life' is theoretically possible. For customers who want this 'double life' option rather than continuous operation i.e. charging one battery while the other is in use, we include a GA 51M2-F4 cable.

We also include a separate car battery connector should you wish to use your own, or locally sourced, larger external batteries. This option enables very long surveys in remote locations. To estimate the life of a fully charged 'car' battery, divide the Ah [ampere hours] by the meter current. For example a typical 50 Ah car battery will extend the measurement period, per battery, by 4 times.

We have dozens of environmental noise meters and up to 3 times as many rechargeable batteries so the above figures are offered only as a guide, not a performance specification. Customers are advised to factor in their own safety margins including the environmental conditions on site and ensure batteries are fully charged before use.

All windscreens and other weather protection devices modify the microphone response, which is why we recommend the GRAS 41AL weather protected microphone systems for Norsonic analyzers. GRAS adjust the response of their outdoor microphones to compensate for all these effects. The complete assembly has PTB approval and meets precision sound level meter requirements. For B&K analyzers we offer the B&K UA 1404 Outdoor System with a correction adaptor for the B&K microphone orientation. Both the GRAS and the B&K Outdoor microphones are delivered with 3m preamplifier extension cables, so the meter may be inside the enclosure and the weather protected microphone mounted externally on the supplied GA 80G1-00 microphone stand. Noise measurements carried out in wet and windy conditions, may not be acceptable, so do you need to check the wind and temperature?

***  The GA 91E1-00 enclosure is shower proof and may not withstand very heavy rain, so we include a simple cover to slip over the enclosure if the measurements are unattended and bad weather is forecast.

****  If you do not hire a meter from us, please advise which meter you are planning to use.

GA 91E1-20 Outdoor Meter Enclosure with rechargeable batteries etc., £ 2 a day *
Same as GA 91E1-00 above but a tripod is not included.

GA 91E3-00 Outdoor Meter Enclosure with rechargeable batteries etc., £  3 a day *
For use with Nor 121 analyzers, otherwise similar to the GA 91E1-00.

GA 91N3-00Nor 121 Annoyance Recorder Enclosure £ 3 a day *
includes 2 x 12V batteries and a charger, so the Nor 121 analyzer may be run continuously independent of the mains, plus a miniature microphone stand. This in not a weatherproof system for external applications.

* Our standard hire charges are based on a 4-day minimum period. Click here for details and other options.
