Environmental Noise Assessment - Pure Tones 113 KB pdf file

Most people find noise more annoying if it contains audible tones, so it has been the common practice to add a dB penalty, based on a simple subjective assessment. In 1992 the Germans proposed the DIN 45681 which resulted in ISO 1996-2 and the equivalent BS 7445-2

Measuring Extremely Low Levels412 KB pdf file

Nor 840 shim Sometimes you need to measure sound pressure levels below the inherent noise of even the best sound level meters. Levels below 0 dB may be measured using two microphones, a Nor 1264 preamplifier holder and a Nor 840 real time analyser.

MLS - a revolutionary measurement mode for building acoustics 403 KB pdf file

The Nor 840 with MLS measurement mode is the only practical way to measure high sound insulation in high background noise levels, or in a room where the noise excitation level is insufficient. The BS EN ISO 140 Standards introduced testing over the extended range 50 - 5000 Hz. Due to speaker inefficiency below 100 Hz and the need to measure received sound levels at least 10 dB above the background noise at both ends of the spectra; this can be a problem using traditional techniques. The Nor 840 with MLS solves all these problems

Nor-Mon - noise nuisance investigation 567 KB pdf file

A self-contained system with a client operated switch for the investigation of noise nuisance complaints. Includes a Nor 116 analyser in a lockable case, with batteries, tripod etc., plus a modified Sony D8 DAT Recorder with a Nor 255 remote control.

When a 'noise event' occurs the resident pushes the start button, the raw noise data is captured with date and time on the tape and the Nor 116 analyser simultaneously records the level v time history and / or statistical analysis - 4 selectable modes

Planning and Noise - PPG24 268 KB pdf file

Planning policy guidance notes set out the UK Government's policies on different aspects of planning. Local authorities must take their content into account in preparing their development plans. They may be material to decisions on individual planning applications and appeals.

This PPG gives guidance to local authorities in England on the use of their planning powers to minimise the adverse impact of noise and builds on the advice previously contained in DOE Circular 10/73. It: - To download PPG24, right click here

Vibration Analysis, using a sound level meter. 21 KB pdf file

Gracey & Associates stock a wide range of vibration analysers. However it's worth remembering that a sound level meter will also measure vibration if the microphone can be replaced with an accelerometer. Many sound level meters are suitable, so we hire adaptors for this purpose. The article also deals with converting the sound level meter dB scale to vibration units.
